copy of webhazelheadshothalloffameHazel Trice Edney is Editor-in-Chief of the NNPA News Service and Blackpressusa.com. She is also interim executive director of the NNPA Foundation. An award-winning 23-year Black Press Veteran, Edney is a native of Louisa, Va. This year, she has received the Phenomenal Women's Alliance's leadership award for her contributions in journalism and news. Last year, she became the first Black woman inducted into the Virginia Communications Hall of Fame. In 2008, she was honored as a  role model by the National Baptist Congress of Christian Education.
She has covered Capitol Hill and national electoral politics for NNPA since Sept. 2000, including as an investigative reporter in NNPA's NorthStar Investigative Reporting Program.
Her coverage has included the World Conference Against Racism in Durban South Africa in 2001; the aftermath of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attack on the Pentagon; she spent eight days in New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina; she was the only print journalist on the flight carrying the body of civil rights heroine Rosa Parks from Detroit to Montgomery and back to the U. S. Capitol;  she was recently one of a team of journalists on a fact-finding mission in earthquake ravaged Port-au-Prince, Haiti; and was one of the last reporters to interview civil rights giant Dr. Dorothy Height on March 9, 2010.
Edney is also an adjunct professor of journalism at Howard University. She was a 1999-2000 congressional fellow, sponsored by the American Political Science Association. In the nine-month fellowship for journalists, she served as a legislative aid in the personal office of Sen. Edward M. Kennedy.. Edney has a Masters Degree from the Harvard University John F. Kennedy School of Government, where she was awarded the William S. Wasserman Jr. Fellowship on the Press, Politics and Public Policy for her impact on public policy while reporting for  the Richmond Afro-American for nearly five years and the Richmond Free Press for seven years. She is also a graduate of Harvard's KSG Women and Power Executive Leadership Program. 
From her own testimony of youth delinquency, teen motherhood and having lived in a shelter for battered women, she enjoys speaking to inspire women in crisis where ever they can be found - including churches, half-way houses, shelters, jails and prisons, compelling them to press to their highest heights.

He has a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism from the Howard University John H. Johnson School of Communications, where he was twice nominated for a Hearst Award for feature writing. Before becoming NNPA National Correspondent, Martin was a special correspondent for the NNPA News Service. He has also published in Vibe, GIANT and XXL magazines as well as the Legal Times. Tisha Y. Lewis, Ph.D. is the Manager of Press Release Services for the NNPA News Service. She has made her mark as a Program Director and gospel radio host for radio stations in New York and New Jersey. Lewis, who was a columnist for the Capital Region Baptist Carrier newspaper and Assistant Editor for Tehillah Enterprises, has an extensive background in communications, marketing and public relations having interned at Black Entertainment Television, National Public Radio and Cable News Network’s Larry King Live! Lewis recently received her Ph.D. in Reading from the University at Albany. She has earned a Master of Science degree in TV/Radio, Programming and Management from Brooklyn College; a Master of Arts degree in Reading Specialization from Teachers College, Columbia University and a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from Virginia Union University. Lewis has received numerous awards for her scholarly endeavors and is currently an adjunct professor at Trinity University's School of Education, an adjunct professor at American University's School of Education, Teaching and Health and a lecturer at Howard University's School of Education's Curriculum and Instruction.
