\nCEO & PRESIDENT OF THE NNPA, & CIVIL RIGHTS ACTIVIST<\/strong><\/p>\n

Reverend Dr. Benjamin F. Chavis, Jr., Entrepreneur, global business leader, educator, chemist, civil rights leader, NAACP Life Member, syndicated columnist, theologian, and author is currently the President and CEO of the National Newspaper Publishers Association (NNPA): The Black Press of America. Dr. Chavis serves on the Board of the National Association for Equal Opportunity in Higher Education (NAFEO).<\/p>\n

From 1993 and 1994, Dr. Chavis served as the Executive Director and CEO of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) and remains an active supporter of the NAACP. In 1995, Dr. Chavis was the National Director and organizer of the Million Man March. The 2010 theatrical release of the full-length movie Blood Done Sign My Name distributed by Paladin, directed by Jeb Stuart, starring Ricky Schroder, Nate Parker, and Lela Rochon depicts a true story from Dr. Chavis\u2019 early days in the Civil Rights Movement during the 1960\u2019s and 1970\u2019s. <\/p>\n

Dr. Chavis has authored books and other publications including: An American Political Prisoner Appeals for Human Rights, Psalms from Prison. His areas of expertise include corporate diversity and inclusion, human rights, climate change, voting rights, bridging the gap between civil rights and hip-hop, and criminal justice reform.<\/p>\n

Denise Rolark Barnes is the publisher and second-generation owner of The Washington Informer, succeeding her father, the late Dr. Calvin W. Rolark, who founded the newspaper in 1964.<\/p>\n

The Washington Informer is a multimedia organization serving the African American community in the Washington metropolitan area. Denise is also president of Washington Informer Charities, a nonprofit organization that promotes 21st-century literacy and journalism through writing competitions, internships, scholarships, and other events promoting African American history, culture, and literature.<\/p>\n

Rolark Barnes is a past chair of the National Newspaper Publishers Association \u2013 the Black Press of America. She serves on the boards of several local non-profit, community, and municipal organizations, including the Washington Convention and Sports Authority (Events DC), the DC Martin Luther King Holiday Commission, the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH) and the Pan African Collective. She is the new president of the MDDC Press Association, and also a board member of Leadership Greater Washington, as well as an inductee in the Washington DC Hall of Fame.<\/p>\n

She lives in Washington, D.C. with her husband, Lafayette Barnes. They are the proud parents of two adult sons.<\/p>\n
