I graduated from Clark Atlanta University with a Bachelor\u2019s degree in Mass Media Arts in the spring of May, 2018. Post-graduation, I started working for the media team on the Stacey Abrams for Governor Campaign. While working on the campaign, I learned a lot and was fortunate to meet lots of inspiring people; but the highlight of that job was meeting billionaire business mogul Oprah Winfrey.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #393839;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-6618 aligncenter size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nnpa.org\/chevydtu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_2657.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2320\" height=\"2900\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #393839;\">Currently, I am a media manager and advisor for CNN political commentator and attorney Angela Rye\u2019s political advocacy firm, <i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">IMPACT Strategies<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. This fall, I will officially relaunch my college radio show \u201c<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Officially Live<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d as a podcast on all social platforms. It will have a new look, and a new format, but the same amount of fun!<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #393839;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-6617 aligncenter size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nnpa.org\/chevydtu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"6211\" height=\"4141\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #393839;\">My experience during the <i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Discover the Unexpected<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> fellowship was everything I hoped it would be, and so much more. There are no words to express the amount of gratitude I have for each individual that I came in contact with during the program. I cannot thank them enough for all that they taught me. They inspired me, motivated me, and gave me unwavering support. During the fellowship, I gained a new perspective on life that superseded the articles I wrote, the beautiful sunburst colored Chevrolet Equinox I got to drive, or even the amazing scholarship I received. None of that meant anything without the people we worked with in the newsroom, the experiences behind the scenes on set, and most of all the people we reported on.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #393839;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was my responsibility to connect with our subjects, and tell their stories so that they became visible. Founded in 1911 in Detroit, Chevrolet is one of the world's largest car brands, doing business in more than 100 countries and selling more than 4 million cars and trucks each year.<\/p><p>A trade association of more than 200 African American-owned community newspapers from around the country, the NNPA has consistently been the voice of the Black community for 77 years.<\/p><p>The organization has been an incubator for news that makes history and, as the largest and most influential Black-owned media resource in America, the NNPA delivers news, information and commentary to more than 20 million people each week.<\/p><p>For the DTU program, students form two teams of three Fellows each. Each team will have access to an all-new 2019 Chevrolet Blazer during their reporting assignments.<\/p><p>Launched in 2015 and now in its fourth year, the DTU program has awarded more than $330,000 in scholarships and stipends.<\/p><p>Initially, program participation was limited to students from Howard University, one of the nation\u2019s most prestigious HBCUs. However, based on the overwhelming response and success of the program, the online submission process was eventually expanded to include students from any of the nation\u2019s HBCUs in their sophomore through senior years with an interest in journalism, communications, mass media or visual arts.<\/p><p>\u201cOur partnership with the NNPA continues to provide a unique platform to connect with young and remarkable storytellers.\u201d said Paul Edwards, U.S. vice president of Chevrolet Marketing.<\/p><p>\u201cFrom the inaugural launch at Howard University to the inclusion of all the HBCUs, it\u2019s Chevrolet\u2019s pleasure to partner with members of the African American community, ensuring a legacy is established for generations to come,\u201d Edwards said.<\/p><p>\u201cWe\u2019re thrilled to meet this year\u2019s group of Fellows and immerse them in all things Chevrolet,\u201d he said.<\/p><p>The NNPA \u201cis excited to partner with Chevrolet for another year in support of young journalists to amplify community voices across our country,\u201d said NNPA President and CEO Dr. Benjamin F.
