IMANI WATERS
Imani Waters is a rising senior at Howard University, majoring in Media, Journalism, and Film, with a concentration in TV & Film and a minor in African Studies. Imani is inspired by Black filmmakers and is committed to bringing a range of Black experiences to cinema. She works to tell underrepresented stories and aims to inspire others to do the same.

When I headed to Detroit for the immersion event that kicked off the “Discover The Unexpected” (DTU) Journalism Fellowship program, I knew that I had to be ready for anything—and I was.
DTU JOURNAL ENTRY 1: THE DETROIT IMMERSION TRIP CHANGED MY MINDSET
The highlight of the trip was exploring the city of Detroit during the scavenger hunt. I even discovered another great Motown landmark, the First Congressional Church, one of the last stops along the Underground Railroad. I was honored to stand outside of one of the cornerstones of the anti-slavery movement, one that paved the way to freedom “for everybody, everywhere.”
