Week Two: Just Do It
By Tyla Barnes
Of all the lessons I have learned during this experience, the most valuable one has been to just do it. It’s the end of week two, and I think I am getting the hang of all aspects of what it means to be a journalist. My teammates and I have been working on a segment called Voice News Now, which is a short form video providing weekly news updates. In order to make sure we were comfortable with all parts of video production, we wanted to rotate positions between directing, anchoring, and producing. I have never been in front of the camera, so I was hesitant at first to anchor the segment. However, the job had to be done! This experience taught me a much needed lesson that is better to produce a piece that may not be perfect than to put out nothing out at all. You can always improve something, but you can’t fix nothing! Thanks to this experience, I am heading into week three without the pressure of always trying to make things perfect, and the anticipation of getting in front of the camera more.
